Twenty years after Andy Sachs first stepped into the halls of Elias-Clarke, she has returned to a world that is hungrier than ever for high fashion and sharp wit. Over its opening weekend (May 1–3, 2026), The Devil Wears Prada 2 officially “strutted” to a massive $233.6 million worldwide, securing its place as the second-highest global opening for a Hollywood film in 2026—trailing only The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
The sequel, which reunites the iconic quartet of Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, earned $77 million in North America and a staggering $156.6 million internationally. The performance marked a career-high opening for Meryl Streep and successfully dethroned the musical biopic Michael at the top of the charts.
The “Startling” Cut: Anne’s Lost Favorite Look
While the film is a visual feast, Anne Hathaway revealed at the European premiere that one of her most cherished fashion moments didn’t make the theatrical cut. The 43-year-old actress disclosed that a unique design by Phoebe Philo—described as an oversized white T-shirt with a long, flowing train—was edited out of the final version.
“I don’t know, it was a garment, more than anything else,” Hathaway told People. She recalled receiving a call from director David Frankel before she had even seen the film: “David called me and he’s like, ‘It’s gone.’ And I was like, ‘Well, maybe it was good that the paparazzi were there.’”
Fortunately for fashion enthusiasts, the look was captured by paparazzi during filming in New York City in July 2025. The ensemble featured the Philo “T-shirt-train” paired with white Nili Lotan trousers, Prada kitten heels, and a chunky silver necklace—a look that has already become legendary in the “Prada” fan community despite its absence from the screen.

The Evolution of Andy Sachs
Beyond the fashion, Hathaway reflected on the emotional growth of her character. While the 2006 Andy was a nervous assistant desperate to please, the 2026 version is a confident, award-winning investigative journalist who reconnects with Miranda Priestly under very different circumstances.
“I think we’re both more confident,” Hathaway remarked. “Twenty years ago, Andy was really worried about getting it right… now I think she just wants to be herself, and I relate to that.”
