The long-running legal battle between Ali Zafar and Meesha Shafi came to a close yesterday when the court ruled in favor of Zafar, imposing a fine of 5 million rupees on Shafi.

The case, which began in April 2018 with harassment allegations by Shafi, concluded after eight years, with the court declaring Zafar innocent.

Following the verdict, many celebrities, including Iqrar Ul Hassan, publicly expressed support for Zafar. In a post on X, Hassan criticized Shafi, stating that women who make false accusations weaken the cases of genuine harassment victims. He also congratulated Zafar for his resilience throughout the long legal process.

However, actress Iffat Omar strongly condemned Hassan’s comments, calling them one-sided and insensitive. In an Instagram post, Omar accused Hassan of being a hypocrite who claims to support women’s rights while publicly backing an accused harasser. She wrote:

“He calls himself a champion of women’s rights—what a sick man. Not all women blindly follow someone. Your support for an accused harasser is disgusting and shows a complete lack of grace as a TV personality.”

Omar’s post emphasized her continued support for Meesha Shafi, noting that Shafi’s family, including her aunt Huma Hameed, also stands with her. Meanwhile, several influencers, including Ejaz Waris and Mahwas Ajaz, voiced support for Ali Zafar, celebrating his legal victory and the end of a lengthy, challenging chapter in his life.

The controversy highlights ongoing discussions in Pakistan around harassment allegations, media responsibility, and the polarized responses of public figures in high-profile cases.
