During her opening monologue, Navarrette discussed her upcoming role as Rogue in Marvel’s X-Men reboot. She joked about her fitness routine and the outfits she wears to the gym.
Her punchline referenced Gillis’ October 10 appearance on SNL. The comedian faced criticism after making offensive comments about women wearing revealing workout clothes.
Several personalities, including Dan Levy and former SNL stars Ego Nwodim and Cecily Strong, also criticised his remarks.
Navarrette added another funny moment by bringing her boyfriend, Nick Aiello, into the monologue. She described their relationship as relaxed and supportive.
However, the camera revealed Aiello sitting in a chair with duct tape around his body and mouth. He responded with two thumbs up, prompting laughter from the audience.
