Pop star Olivia Rodrigo has previewed a deeply emotional new song during a private Los Angeles performance, offering fans a rare look into her upcoming album and signaling a more introspective musical direction.
The closed-door show took place at The Echo on April 24, where strict no-phone rules created an intimate, distraction-free environment. The stripped-back setting allowed listeners to fully absorb the debut of what attendees described as a “heartbreaking ballad.”
Rodrigo was joined on stage by Weyes Blood, adding a haunting layer to the performance. Fans in attendance said the track focused on longing and emotional vulnerability, with lyrics centered on pleading for someone to stay.
The new song is believed to be part of her upcoming third album, You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love, which is set for release on June 12. Rodrigo later shared her excitement on Instagram, calling the track “the first chapter” of the album’s story and expressing a deep personal connection to it.
The surprise debut builds on momentum from her lead single Drop Dead, which she first performed at Coachella alongside Addison Rae. The song, accompanied by a visually striking video directed by Petra Collins and filmed at the Palace of Versailles, quickly climbed the charts.

According to the Official Charts Company, “Drop Dead” became Rodrigo’s fourth UK number one single, joining previous hits like Vampire, Driver’s License, and Good 4 U.
While the full tracklist for the album remains under wraps, it is expected to include 13 songs. Rodrigo has hinted that even her love songs carry a melancholic tone, a theme that appears central to this new project.
With intimate performances and emotionally rich songwriting, Olivia Rodrigo is setting the stage for a bold new chapter. Her upcoming album promises a deeper exploration of love, heartbreak, and vulnerability, reinforcing her status as one of pop music’s most compelling voices.
