Dark Romance Heads Home: Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights Sets HBO Max Premiere Date

The wait is nearly over for fans of Emerald Fennell’s brooding take on Emily Brontë’s classic. Warner Bros. has officially confirmed that Wuthering Heights will make its streaming debut on HBO Max on May 1, 2026.

Starring Margot Robbie as Catherine and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff, the R-rated reimagining has already proven to be a financial powerhouse. Against an $80 million production budget, the film has hauled in a staggering $241 million at the global box office.

    A Groundbreaking ASL Premiere

In a first for the platform’s romance titles, HBO Max will offer an exclusive American Sign Language (ASL) version of the film.

This version features dual dubbing by performers Leila Hanaumi and Giovanni Maucere, directed by Justin Jackerson. It marks a significant step forward in accessibility for major blockbuster releases.

The Fennell Vision: Erotic & Psychological

Building on the aesthetic she established in Saltburn, director Emerald Fennell has recast the Yorkshire moors as an operatic stage of vengeance and desire.

Rather than a traditional period piece, this version leans into the psychological undercurrents of the original text. Fennell explores the toxic power dynamics between Heathcliff and the Linton family with a modern, unflinching lens.

    The Star-Studded Cast

While Robbie and Elordi lead the charge, the supporting cast is equally impressive:

    Shazad Latif: Edgar Linton

    Hong Chau: Nelly (The Housekeeper)

    Alison Oliver: Isabella Linton

    Martin Clunes: Mr. Earnshaw

    Margot Robbie’s New Chapter

While Robbie has executive produced Fennell’s previous hits (Promising Young Woman, Saltburn), this marks the first time she has taken the lead role under Fennell’s direction. The partnership continues to be one of the most commercially successful duos in modern cinema.
