Speaking at a recent industry panel, the 21-year-old actor opened up about his journey playing Will Byers on the flagship Netflix series, which is currently deep in production for its highly anticipated fifth and final season.
Reflecting on how his relationship with the creative team has evolved since he was cast as a child, Schnapp noted that his artistic confidence has grown immensely. He explained that while he initially felt incredibly nervous and hesitant to speak up on set, spending a decade living with the character of Will Byers has empowered him to become an active contributor to the show’s narrative direction.

That newfound confidence has apparently translated into a relentless stream of direct messages to the showrunners. During the panel discussion, Schnapp jokingly called out the Duffer Brothers for failing to reply to his frequent text messages containing unsolicited plot ideas, structural alternative choices, and reference videos.
“The Duffers can speak to how many texts I’ve sent them that went unanswered,” Schnapp told the laughing crowd.
The playful accusation immediately prompted an on-stage defense from the production team. Executive producer Shawn Levy stepped in to assure the audience that the creators do meticulously read all incoming messages from the cast.
