Hugh Jackman has stunned audiences and even his own co-star with a dramatic physical transformation for his upcoming film The Death of Robin Hood, where he takes on a darker and more rugged version of the iconic outlaw.
The transformation was so convincing that actress Jodie Comer admitted she did not recognize Jackman when she first saw him on set.
“I think you’d already begun filming that week, and I arrived to do my makeup test,” Comer told People. “He was in the makeup bus fully made up, and I was like, ‘Who’s that?’ Then I heard his voice and I was like, ‘Oh my God.’ It was so striking.”
The film reimagines Robin Hood in a far grittier and more grounded style than previous adaptations. Jackman’s version features an intense wilderness-survivor look, complete with a heavy beard and rugged styling designed to distance the character from traditional portrayals.
The actor confirmed that the beard was not real, explaining that it was created due to time constraints during production. “I didn’t have time to grow the beard, so that’s fake,” he said.
Despite the film’s darker tone, both Jackman and Comer described a positive and light atmosphere on set. Comer noted there was “so much levity,” while Jackman added that filming in Ireland brought humor and warmth to the production.
