Nicole Kidman Recalls Oscar Night
Nicole Kidman has opened up about one of the most emotional moments of her career. Although she had just achieved a major professional milestone, the actress says she felt extremely lonely afterward.
Kidman won her first Oscar at the 75th Academy Awards on March 23, 2003. She received the Best Actress award for her performance as Virginia Woolf in the 2002 film The Hours.
However, the achievement did not bring the happiness she expected. Kidman recently discussed the experience on the Therapuss podcast while promoting her upcoming movie Practical Magic 2.

Looking back on that night, Kidman admitted that she struggled emotionally after the ceremony.
“I was beyond lonely. I had the pinnacle of my success, and I went home and was so lonely,” she said.
In fact, Kidman described the experience as a major turning point in her life.
She recalled having her parents with her but still wishing she had a partner to share the moment with.
“I had my mom with me and my dad, but I was like, ‘Where’s my partner, someone that I can share this with?’” she explained.

Kidman said the contrast between her professional success and personal loneliness affected her deeply. At the same time she held one of the most prestigious awards in the entertainment industry, she realized that something was missing from her life.
“It was one of the most profound moments where I went, ‘I’ve got to get a life,’” she recalled.
Meanwhile, Kidman remained grateful for the achievement. Still, she could not ignore the loneliness she felt after reaching such an important career milestone.
“This is the highest sort of prize you can get in our industry,” she said. “And so grateful and yet so lonely.”
