Legendary Irish rock band U2 has surprised fans once again with the release of a brand-new EP titled Easter Lily, unveiled on Good Friday.
The six-track project arrives just weeks after their politically charged EP Days Of Ash, which was released earlier this year on Ash Wednesday.
Unlike its predecessor, Easter Lily takes a more introspective approach, offering what the band describes as a “personal, private and reflective” collection of songs.
The EP explores themes of friendship, loss, hope, and renewal fitting for the Easter season. It leans into the band’s signature arena-style sound while also embracing softer, more emotional tones.
Leading the EP is Song For Hal, a heartfelt tribute dedicated to late music collaborator Hal Willner. The track carries a powerful message of comfort and solidarity, with the recurring line “you’re not alone,” reflecting on isolation during the COVID-19 lockdown period.

Another standout, In a Life, celebrates enduring friendships, while Scars delivers a moving message about healing and self-acceptance. Meanwhile, Resurrection Song captures a sense of journey and discovery, inspired by the idea of a shared pilgrimage.
The EP also includes Easter Parade, a vibrant track symbolising rebirth and new beginnings, blending atmospheric synths with soaring guitar work. Closing the project is COEXIST (I Will Bless The Lord At All Times?), a sombre, spoken-word piece enhanced by a soundscape from renowned producer Brian Eno.
With Easter Lily, U2 continues to experiment creatively while staying rooted in the emotional depth that has defined their decades-long career.
The band also confirmed that work is ongoing on their highly anticipated 15th studio album.
This surprise release not only highlights U2’s consistency but also reinforces their ability to connect with listeners through meaningful and timely music.
