Tom Hanks’ most notorious box-office failure is being revived for television. A new series adaptation is in development from producer David E. Kelley and director Matt Reeves.
The project reimagines the 1990 film “The Bonfire of the Vanities,” which was based on Tom Wolfe’s novel. The movie, starring Hanks and Bruce Willis, was a critical and commercial disappointment.
This new version is planned as a limited series for Apple TV+. Matt Reeves, known for directing “The Batman,” will executive produce alongside writer David E. Kelley, creator of shows like “Big Little Lies.”
The series aims to offer a fresh take on Wolfe’s satirical story of ambition and greed in 1980s New York. No casting announcements have been made.
