Dylan Sprouse Reveals He Received Just Five Cents in The Suite Life of Zack & Cody Residuals
Actor Dylan Sprouse has revealed that he received only five cents in residual payments from The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. The Disney Channel series helped make him and his twin brother, Cole Sprouse, household names.
Despite the show’s popularity, Dylan says the financial rewards from its success were surprisingly small.
The 34-year-old actor shared this detail during an appearance on the Wildmen podcast. He spoke with his former co-star Phil Lewis about their experience working on the popular series.
Dylan Sprouse Opens Up About His Residual Payments
During the conversation, Dylan described himself and Cole as “the ugly duckling” among Disney Channel’s higher-ups.
He claimed that the brothers enjoyed huge popularity but did not receive generous financial treatment.
“We were extremely popular, but also extremely underfunded,” Dylan said.
He then revealed that he had received just one residual cheque from the series.
“The only residual cheque I’ve ever received for the Suite Life at all was a crossover episode with Hannah Montana for five cents. I’m not joking,” he explained.
The crossover episode featured characters from The Suite Life of Zack & Cody and Hannah Montana.

Why Were the Residual Payments So Small?
Phil Lewis also discussed how the show’s contracts reportedly handled episode production.
According to his explanation, the contracts treated episodes filmed within the same calendar year as one season. This applied regardless of how many episodes the production completed.
The Suite Life of Zack & Cody originally ran from 2005 to 2008. The series became one of Disney Channel’s popular shows and played a major role in the Sprouse brothers’ early careers.
Dylan’s comments have now brought renewed attention to how television contracts can affect residual payments for actors.
