Development
In April 2023, Legendary Entertainment secured the live-action rights for the Street Fighter franchise from Capcom. The project is the fourth live-action adaptation of the game, following the 1994 and 2009 films and 2014’s Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist. Initially, Danny and Michael Philippou were set to direct, but they stepped down in June 2024. Kitao Sakurai joined as director in February 2025.
Casting
Casting began in May 2025, with negotiations for Noah Centineo, Andrew Koji, Jason Momoa, and Roman Reigns. By June, the main cast was confirmed, and additional stars such as 50 Cent, Andrew Schulz, David Dastmalchian, Cody Rhodes, Vidyut Jammwal, and Eric André joined the ensemble.
Filming
Principal photography took place in Australia from August 18 to November 12, 2025, under the working title Punch. Ken Seng served as the cinematographer, capturing high-energy martial arts sequences and dramatic visuals.
Release
Originally scheduled for March 20, 2026, by Sony Pictures, the film’s release moved to Paramount Pictures after Legendary ended its deal with Sony in 2024. Street Fighter (2026) will premiere in the U.S. on October 16, 2026, including IMAX screenings.
