A Villainous Departure: Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn
For an actress known for roles rooted in reality, the Masters of the Universe movie reboot offered a chance to lean into theatrical villainy. Brie told USA Today that she prepared for the role by revisiting the original 1980s cartoons, noting that Evil-Lyn is a “classic femme fatale character but with a sense of humor.”
The production, directed by Travis Knight, stands in stark contrast to Brie’s recent intimate horror project, Together, which she filmed with husband Dave Franco. While that shoot was a two-person effort, the Masters of the Universe movie reboot is a massive ensemble production featuring a star-studded cast including Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, Camila Mendes, and Sir Idris Elba.
Childhood Nostalgia and a Star-Studded Cast
Idris Elba, who portrays Man-At-Arms, was equally eager to join the project. Speaking to Empire, the 53-year-old actor revealed that He-Man was a pivotal part of his childhood because the toys were more affordable for his parents than the Star Wars alternatives. “I had He-Man, She-Ra, Battle Cat… the cartoons were always a bit more camp, a bit more out-there,” Elba recalled.
The 2026 reimagining aims to pay homage to the aesthetic of the original 1980s franchise while bringing a modern “amusement arcade” energy to the big screen. With a release scheduled for June, the Masters of the Universe movie reboot is poised to be one of the summer’s biggest nostalgic spectacles, blending high-octane action with the campy charm that made the original series a cult classic.
