The Master of Prosthetics Rejoins the Batman Universe

Academy Award-nominated makeup designer Mike Marino is officially returning to Gotham City for the highly anticipated sequel, The Batman Part II. Known for his groundbreaking work in the 2022 film The Batman and the subsequent HBO series The Penguin, Marino has become a vital architect of Matt Reeves’ gritty cinematic world. His return ensures visual continuity for the franchise’s most physically transformative roles, cementing his reputation as one of the industry’s premier prosthetic artists following his acclaimed work on Coming 2 America and A Different Man.

Transforming the Penguin and Introducing Two-Face

Marino’s most celebrated achievement to date is the unrecognizable transformation of Colin Farrell into Oz Cobb, also known as the Penguin. By utilizing complex layers of silicone prosthetics, Marino turned the leading man into a weathered, scarred mobster—a look Farrell will reprise in the sequel. However, the designer faces a new challenge for the upcoming film: the transformation of Sebastian Stan into Harvey Dent, better known as the iconic villain Two-Face. This role requires a delicate balance of human realism and the gruesome, asymmetrical scarring that defines the character’s descent into madness.

    Production Details and Star-Studded Cast

Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman Part II is currently slated for a global theatrical release on October 1, 2027. The sequel features a massive ensemble led by Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne. Alongside Farrell and Stan, the film stars Andy Serkis as Alfred and Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon. Recent reports have also fueled excitement by suggesting that Scarlett Johansson and Barry Keoghan (following his brief appearance as the Joker) have joined the cast. With Marino’s return, fans can expect the sequel to push the boundaries of practical makeup effects once again.
