The long wait is finally over for one of Britain’s most respected performers. On Sunday night, May 10, 2026, Stephen Graham secured his first-ever BAFTA Television Award for Leading Actor, breaking an eight-nomination streak with his powerhouse performance in the Netflix limited series, Adolescence.
In the four-part drama—which was uniquely filmed in a single take for each episode—Graham stars as Eddie Miller, a father whose world collapses when his 13-year-old son is arrested for murder. The win was a poignant “home turf” victory for Graham, who also co-created, co-wrote, and executive produced the series through his production company, Matriarch Productions.
A Message for the Next Generation
Accepting the mask on stage at London’s Royal Festival Hall, Graham was visibly moved as he addressed the crowd. “I’ve been nominated eight times, and it’s the first time I’ve won,” he joked, adding, “Nice one BAFTA, this is lovely.”
Beyond the celebration of his own career, Graham used the global platform to send a message to children from similar working-class backgrounds. Inspired by the show Scully during his own childhood, he told younger viewers:
“No matter where you’re from, anything is possible. We’re not saving lives, but we have the opportunity to tell the human condition and the obligation to tell beautiful stories.”

A Dominant Night for Adolescence
The win for Graham was part of a massive sweep for the production, which has become one of Netflix’s most-watched English-language series of all time. Along with the Leading Actor prize, Adolescence took home:
Best Limited Drama
Supporting Actor: Won by 16-year-old Owen Cooper, who made history as the youngest actor ever to complete the “Grand Slam” of TV acting awards (Emmy, Golden Globe, Critics Choice, and BAFTA).
Supporting Actress: Won by Christine Tremarco for her role as the on-screen mother.
The ceremony, hosted by Greg Davies, highlighted a landmark year for streaming drama, with Adolescence entering the night with 11 nominations and emerging as the most-awarded program of the evening.
