Marvel Actress Wai Ching Ho Dies at 82

Veteran actress Wai Ching Ho, best known for her role as Madame Gao in Marvel’s “Daredevil,” “Iron Fist” and “The Defenders,” has died at the age of 82.

Her “Daredevil” co-star Peter Shinkoda shared an emotional tribute on social media, remembering Ho as a remarkable person and talented performer who left a lasting impact on those who worked with her.

“I won’t ever forget you. I learned every minute from you when we were together on and off set,” Shinkoda wrote.

Actor Perry Yung later revealed that Ho passed away peacefully following a stroke. He praised her kindness, compassion and dedication to her craft.

Several other actors and fans also paid tribute to Ho, celebrating her influence on Asian representation in the entertainment industry.

Ho became widely recognized among Marvel fans for portraying Madame Gao, a mysterious and powerful crime figure whose calm presence and intimidating personality made her one of the franchise’s memorable villains.

Beyond the Marvel universe, Ho enjoyed a successful career across film, television and theater. Her credits included appearances in movies such as “Premium Rush,” “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” and “Hustlers.”


She also lent her voice to the character Grandma Wu in Pixar’s Oscar-nominated animated film “Turning Red.”

Television audiences saw Ho in popular shows including “Fresh Off the Boat,” “Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens,” “Only Murders in the Building” and “Law & Order.”

Before becoming a full-time actress, Ho worked with the United Nations International Refugee Organization, supporting displaced communities after World War II. She later moved to Canada, where she worked with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation before pursuing acting.
