Kim Kardashian has played a pivotal role in securement of freedom for a man who spent decades on death row. The media mogul and justice reform advocate reportedly posted a $500,000 bail to help secure the immediate release of the former inmate from the Oklahoma State Penitentiary.

The individual has been identified as 63-year-old Richard Glossip, who was officially freed on Thursday. In a historic turn for his decades-long legal battle, Glossip was also awarded a complete retrial for his first-degree murder conviction, according to reports from Us Weekly.

A Legal Saga Involving Nine Execution Dates and Three Last Meals

Glossip’s journey through the American penal system is one of the most remarkable legal endurance stories in modern history. Over his decades behind bars, the inmate faced a staggering nine scheduled execution dates and was served his infamous “last meal” on three separate occasions.

His closest brush with state execution occurred when he escaped the lethal sentence by a margin of only one hour. The execution was abruptly halted at the final moment because a state pharmacist had inadvertently supplied the wrong chemical drug required for the lethal injection cocktail.

The 1997 Oklahoma City Murder Case and the $500,000 Bail

Richard Glossip was originally facing charges for the brutal 1997 slaying of his boss, motel owner Barry Van Treese, in Oklahoma City. Court records show that Van Treese was beaten to death with a baseball bat. While Glossip did not physically commit the act, prosecutors accused him of masterminding and arranging the murder plot, leading to his initial guilty verdict.

Decades later, during a dramatic bond hearing, Judge Natalie Mai officially set Glossip’s bail at $500,000 pending his upcoming retrial. The substantial financial sum was immediately paid in full by the reality television star, allowing Glossip to walk out of the maximum-security facility as a free man while he prepares to contest the original charges in court.
