John F. Kennedy Jr.’s final words before his fatal plane crash have been revealed. He spoke to a flight instructor on the day of the accident.
Kennedy was preparing to fly from New Jersey to Martha’s Vineyard with his wife, Carolyn Bessette, and her sister, Lauren Bessette. The flight instructor reportedly advised against the trip due to hazy conditions.
His final known communication was a radio transmission to air traffic control. Kennedy stated his altitude and position as he approached the Massachusetts coastline.
The plane crashed into the Atlantic Ocean on July 16, 1999. All three passengers died. The accident was attributed to spatial disorientation in poor visibility.
The National Transportation Safety Board investigation found Kennedy, a pilot with limited instrument flight experience, lost control in the dark over water.
