Brendan Fraser’s The Mummy Sequel Gets New Title Ahead of 2027 Release
Brendan Fraser is returning to one of his most popular film franchises. Universal Pictures has revealed the title of the upcoming sequel, The Mummy: Book of the Dead, ahead of its planned theatrical release in 2027.
The studio announced the new title on October 15. The film will bring back familiar characters while introducing another chapter in the popular adventure franchise.
The Mummy: Book of the Dead Sets 2027 Release
Universal Pictures has scheduled The Mummy: Book of the Dead to arrive in cinemas on October 15, 2027. The release will continue the story established by Fraser’s earlier films.
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the filmmakers known as Radio Silence, will direct the project. David Coggeshall is writing the screenplay.
However, the studio has not revealed many details about the plot. Fans will have to wait for further announcements to learn what dangers Rick O’Connell and his companions will face next.
Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz Return
Fraser will reprise his role as adventurer Rick O’Connell. Rachel Weisz will also return as Evie O’Connell, bringing the original film’s leading characters back together.
The reported cast also includes John Hannah, Michael Johnston, Numan Acar, Kevin J. O’Connor and Oded Fehr.
Their return adds to the excitement surrounding the sequel, particularly for fans who grew up watching the earlier films.

The Mummy Franchise’s Journey
The franchise has a long history in Hollywood. Universal’s original The Mummy arrived in 1932, starring Boris Karloff as the iconic monster.
However, Fraser and Weisz helped give the series a fresh identity with Stephen Sommers’ The Mummy in 1999. The adventure film became a popular hit and led to the sequel The Mummy Returns in 2001.
Now, The Mummy: Book of the Dead is set to continue that era of the franchise. Its planned return brings Fraser and Weisz back to the story that helped make their characters fan favourites.
With its new title and 2027 release date, the sequel is shaping up to be a major addition to Universal’s monster and adventure film lineup.
