Pakistani actor Hania Aamir has spoken out against rising online toxicity, social media comparisons, and gender-based criticism, saying that women are often unfairly targeted simply for being confident and happy.

In a recent video shared after taking a short break from social media, Hania Aamir said she had been feeling mentally exhausted due to ongoing criticism and negativity online.

She shared that she even questioned whether she needed to change herself but eventually realised that “people just don’t like happy women.”

The actor highlighted that social media platforms have amplified old societal judgments, where women are still being evaluated based on appearance, skin tone, body shape, and personality.

According to her, the difference today is that these opinions are now widely shared and often come from strangers online.

Hania Aamir also criticised the trend of comparing female celebrities through “this or that” style posts on social media. She pointed out that such comparisons are rarely made between male celebrities, reflecting a clear double standard in how men and women are treated online.

She further questioned why women’s success, individuality, and self-expression often trigger negative reactions, suggesting that such criticism may come from internalised biases or societal expectations placed on women.

Calling for a more positive and respectful online environment, she urged people to stop bullying and allow individuals the freedom to be themselves without unnecessary judgment.

It is worth mentioning that Hania Aamir recently faced criticism over her Eid photos, where she wore a white and red sari. The outfit sparked online debate and backlash from some users, once again highlighting the scrutiny faced by female public figures over personal style choices.
