Expansion of the MMCA Guided Tour for Global Audiences

As global fascination with K-Art reaches new heights, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) has announced a significant expansion of its English-language services. The cornerstone of this initiative is the MMCA guided tour, which provides in-depth English explanations of the “MMCA Collection: Korean Contemporary Art.” Due to surging demand, the museum is increasing the number of sessions from 163 to 250 this year. These tours are conveniently held twice daily at 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, requiring no prior reservation for walk-in visitors.

Special Exhibitions and the Do Ho Suh 2026 Showcase

The MMCA guided tour program is also diversifying its content to include highly anticipated seasonal showcases. Starting in June, tours will cover the “This Is (Not) Conceptual Art” exhibition, followed by a massive solo exhibition by the world-renowned Do Ho Suh in September 2026. By integrating these specific shows into the MMCA guided tour schedule, the museum ensures that international visitors can navigate complex themes in Korean contemporary art with professional linguistic support.

MMCA Gatherings: In-Depth Discussion for Foreign Residents

For those seeking a more communal experience, the “MMCA Gatherings” program offers weekly evening sessions designed for international students and foreign residents. Unlike a standard MMCA guided tour, these gatherings focus on a single masterpiece to encourage cultural and historical dialogue. The program resumes on April 15, with a special session on April 1 featuring 2026 ambassador Mark Tetto. Tetto will lead a deep dive into Park Seo-bo’s iconic dansaekhwa (monochrome) works, bridging the gap between traditional Korean aesthetics and modern global perspectives.

How to Join MMCA English Programs in Seoul

Participating in these cultural events is simple but varies by program type. While the standard MMCA guided tour is open to all visitors on a first-come, first-served basis, the “MMCA Gatherings” require advance registration via the official museum website. Under the leadership of Director Kim Sung-hee, the MMCA aims to become a premier global cultural institution. Whether you are a casual tourist or a dedicated art collector, these expanded MMCA guided tour options provide an unparalleled gateway into the heart of the Korean art scene.
