Amanda Seyfried Explains Why She Turned Down a Series
Amanda Seyfried has revealed why she recently passed on a television role. The actress said she felt uncomfortable with the amount of sex the series required.
Speaking at a panel hosted by Alec Baldwin during the Hamptons International Film Festival on October 4, Seyfried explained her decision.
“I passed on a show where I would have to have sex all the time because of the sex,” she said. “I’m uncomfortable with it. I’m not into it right now.”
The actress added that her feelings could change in the future. For now, however, she does not want to take on a role that requires frequent intimate scenes with someone she does not know.
Actress Says Her Feelings Have Changed With Age
Seyfried also reflected on how her views about on-screen intimacy have changed over the years.
“Our jobs are weird, and as I get older, it gets weirder,” she said. She explained that such scenes can sometimes feel enjoyable but can also leave her uncomfortable.
The actress recalled a time when kissing a co-star felt like a fun part of the job. She joked about the experience of getting paid to kiss an attractive person.
However, Seyfried now feels more confident about turning down roles that do not suit her comfort level.
Amanda Seyfried Wants to Set an Example for Her Children
The Mean Girls star said motherhood has influenced how she approaches personal boundaries.
Seyfried shares two children with her husband, Thomas Sadoski: daughter Nina, 9, and son Thomas, 6. She said she wants to become less likely to agree to things simply to please others.
She also shared an example from a day out in Manhattan with Nina. When strangers asked for photographs, Seyfried chose to decline their requests.
Her daughter later told her, “I’m very proud of you, mama.”
The moment stayed with Seyfried. She explained that she now tries to say no when she is spending time with her children because their needs deserve her attention.
Seyfried’s Latest Film Project
Seyfried stars in The Life and Deaths of Wilson Shedd, directed by Tim Blake Nelson.
She plays a teacher in an abusive relationship who takes a job at a maximum-security prison. There, her character develops feelings for an inmate played by Scoot McNairy.
The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival before screening at the Hamptons International Film Festival. It does not yet have a confirmed theatrical release date.
Seyfried’s comments offer a glimpse into how she is approaching her career today. As she becomes more comfortable setting boundaries, the actress is choosing roles that better match her personal values and current priorities.
