Jameela Jamil Reacts to Cornell Investigation
Jamil shared her reaction on Instagram after news of the reopened investigation emerged.
She called for jail time and other severe penalties for those accused. Her comments came after the Tompkins County district attorney announced plans to present the case to a grand jury.
The investigation concerns an alleged assault at a Chi Phi fraternity house in October 2024. At the time, prosecutors did not file criminal charges.
Prosecutors Reopen the Cornell Case
Tompkins County District Attorney Matthew Van Houten said his office will review the case again.
He plans to present new evidence to a grand jury. He also said prosecutors want to determine whether the new evidence could support criminal charges.
The case gained new attention after a former Cornell student filed a civil lawsuit. The lawsuit names seven Chi Phi members, Cornell University and other defendants.
The woman, identified as Jane Doe in the lawsuit, was 20 when the alleged incident took place.
What the Lawsuit Alleges
According to the civil lawsuit, the woman drank alcohol before going to the fraternity house. She alleges that fraternity members then gave her drugs and alcohol.
She also alleges that seven members sexually assaulted her while she could not consent.
The lawsuit includes an alleged group chat involving fraternity members. The messages reportedly discuss the incident and encourage others to participate. CNN reported that this evidence was not part of the original investigation.
These claims remain allegations. The accused have not been convicted of a crime.
Why Did Prosecutors Not File Charges in 2024?

Van Houten has explained why his office did not bring criminal charges during the first investigation.
He said the woman’s statement in November 2024 described her drug use and sexual activity as voluntary and consensual. He also said the new lawsuit presents different allegations.
The woman’s attorney disputes that account. He has argued that her original report did not materially differ from the claims in the civil lawsuit.Imran Khan Meets Fan Who Introduces Him to The Vampire Diaries
The reopened investigation will now allow prosecutors to review the new evidence and present the case to a grand jury.
Cornell Responds to the Allegations
Cornell University has defended its handling of the case.
The university said it conducted its own investigation in 2024. According to Cornell, the process resulted in different sanctions, including expulsions and suspensions. The university also barred the Chi Phi chapter from campus.

Jameela Jamil Demands Severe Punishment
Jamil’s comments have added another celebrity voice to the growing reaction around the case.
She called for jail time and legal castration for those responsible. Her comments reflect her personal response to the allegations and do not determine the outcome of the criminal investigation.
Prosecutors will now review the evidence before the grand jury. Any criminal charges would depend on the findings of that process.
