Star Trek and Twilight Zone Actress Antoinette Bower Passes Away at 93
The veteran actress was remembered for her iconic science fiction roles and a Hollywood career that spanned nearly four decades.
Antoinette Bower, the acclaimed actress known for her appearances in Star Trek and The Twilight Zone, has died at the age of 93.
According to reports, Bower passed away peacefully on April 30 at a retirement home in Eagle Rock, Los Angeles. Her longtime friend Carlotta Glackin confirmed the news.
Born in Baden-Baden, Germany, in 1932, Bower built a successful acting career after moving from Europe to North America. She became a familiar face on television during the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, appearing in some of the era’s most popular shows.
She gained a loyal science fiction following for playing Sylvia, a mysterious shape-shifting alien in the original Star Trek episode “Catspaw.” The episode became notable as the franchise’s first Halloween-themed story.
Bower also appeared in The Twilight Zone episode “Probe 7, Over and Out,” where she portrayed Eve Norda, further establishing her place among classic television performers.
Throughout her career, Bower earned nearly 100 screen credits, with appearances in famous series including Mission: Impossible, Columbo, Perry Mason, Kojak, Hawaii Five-O, and Murder, She Wrote.
Her film work included roles in Prom Night alongside Leslie Nielsen and Jamie Lee Curtis, as well as The Evil That Men Do with Charles Bronson.
Before becoming a Hollywood actress, Bower worked with the United Nations’ International Refugee Organization, assisting displaced people after World War II. She later moved to Canada, where she began working with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation before pursuing acting.
Even after retirement, Bower continued exploring creative projects. She produced and narrated a documentary about Canadian chuckwagon racing and later studied carpentry, creating furniture and taking on new challenges.
Fans continued to celebrate her legacy, with Star Trek admirers sending her messages throughout her later years. Actor William Shatner also shared condolences following her passing.
A celebration of Antoinette Bower’s life is scheduled to take place in Pasadena on September 26, honoring an actress whose work continues to be remembered by generations of viewers.
