Hollywood is buzzing as a major new romantic comedy officially enters pre-production with a powerhouse cast. Specifically, Zoë Kravitz and Jack Whitehall are headlining Otherwise Engaged alongside industry icons Halle Berry and Colin Firth.
According to Deadline, the upcoming film centers on Charlie, portrayed by Whitehall, and Gabby, played by Kravitz. As the couple eagerly prepares for their wedding, absolute chaos strikes their lives.
Without warning, Charlie’s estranged father arrives. This disgraced business tycoon, recently released from prison and played by Firth, quickly complicates matters. Furthermore, complications escalate rapidly when the father falls head over heels for Gabby’s fiercely independent mother, brought to life by Berry.
Consequently, this unexpected romance between their parents threatens to derail the wedding completely. Behind the scenes, Suzanne McNeill Farwell is directing the project. Moreover, she co-wrote the script alongside Gabriel Mizrahi.
Farwell brings years of invaluable experience working closely with renowned filmmaker Nancy Meyers. Additionally, production is proudly backed by Resonate Entertainment and Esme Grace Pictures.
Expressing her enthusiasm, Farwell shared her excitement about stepping into the director’s chair. Ultimately, she aims to deliver a film that combines loud laughs with a meaningful emotional journey.
Meanwhile, producers Susan Cartsonis and Laura Rister praised Farwell’s background in the genre. They noted her unique ability to helm a sophisticated generational comedy successfully.
Production for Otherwise Engaged is officially scheduled to kick off in New York in March 2027. To build excitement, the team will introduce the project to the international marketplace at TIFF.
