Sofía Vergara is looking back fondly on her years with Modern Family, admitting that she still misses her former castmates, particularly Ed O’Neill, who played her on-screen husband, Jay Pritchett.
In a recent interview with People, the actress shared heartfelt memories from her time on the award-winning sitcom, describing O’Neill as both a close friend and an important mentor throughout the show’s successful run.
Vergara explained that Modern Family was one of the first major acting opportunities of her career and credited O’Neill with helping her navigate the challenges of television acting during the series’ 11-season journey.
“I miss him so much,” Vergara said, adding that she could not have imagined her experience on the show without his support and guidance.

The actress noted that although six years have passed since the beloved comedy ended, her bond with the cast remains strong. While they occasionally reunite in person, she admitted she wishes they could spend more time together.
According to Vergara, the cast still stays connected through an active group chat that includes many of the show’s stars. She joked that O’Neill often responds to messages days after a conversation has moved on, leaving everyone wondering exactly what he is replying to.
Despite the occasional confusion, Vergara said the ongoing communication reflects the close-knit relationship the cast built during more than a decade of working together.

Fans got a glimpse of that chemistry in 2023 when much of the Modern Family cast reunited for a special gathering. The reunion included Ed O’Neill, Julie Bowen, Sarah Hyland, Eric Stonestreet, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Ariel Winter, Rico Rodriguez, Nolan Gould, and Aubrey Anderson-Emmons.
At the time, Vergara described the reunion as emotional and meaningful because it marked the first occasion in nearly four years that the entire cast had been together.
She recalled that despite the long gap, it instantly felt as though they had stepped right back onto the set, highlighting the lasting friendships formed during the show’s production.
Modern Family aired from 2009 to 2020 and became one of television’s most celebrated sitcoms, earning multiple awards and building a loyal global fan base.
Vergara’s latest comments serve as a reminder of the enduring connection among the cast and the lasting impact the series continues to have on both its stars and viewers around the world.
