Electronic music producer Skrillex has shared his perspective on the growing role of artificial intelligence in the music industry, arguing that AI-generated songs can never recreate the emotional bond between artists and listeners.
Speaking in a recent interview with 032c magazine, the Grammy-winning DJ said the true value of music lies in its ability to make people feel understood. According to Skrillex, emotional connection is something only human creators can genuinely provide.
Reflecting on legendary acts such as Justice, Daft Punk and Metallica, Skrillex explained that their music resonates because it combines originality with authentic human experience. He believes listeners connect deeply with songs when they sense a real person behind the message.
While acknowledging that AI-created tracks may attract attention and even become viral hits, Skrillex insisted they lack the emotional authenticity that defines timeless music. He argued that listeners cannot experience the feeling of being truly “seen” without a human storyteller behind the art.
The producer, whose real name is Sonny Moore, also spoke about the importance of taking creative risks. Looking back on his early career with the post-hardcore band From First to Last, he recalled facing criticism for refusing to fit into traditional expectations.
Skrillex said he learned to embrace criticism rather than fear it, explaining that innovation often comes from experimenting without worrying about public opinion. That mindset, he noted, has shaped his artistic journey throughout his career.
As artificial intelligence continues to influence the entertainment industry, Skrillex’s comments add to the ongoing debate about technology’s place in creative fields. His message remains clear that while AI may become another production tool, genuine human emotion will always be at the heart of meaningful music.
