Priyanka Chopra is fueling anticipation for her long-awaited return to the Indian film industry. After an eight-year hiatus, the actress stars in director SS Rajamouli’s upcoming action-adventure, Varanasi. She recently shared new insights into the production during an appearance on the Hey Jonas! podcast.
The 43-year-old producer has dedicated 14 months to the project, noting that Rajamouli’s methodical approach is essential to his vision. Chopra stars as Mandakini, appearing alongside Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj. The film is set to combine Indian mythology with futuristic science fiction elements like time travel. She revealed that the production involves intense physical work, including elaborate action sequences.
Discussing the scale of the project with Variety, Chopra praised Rajamouli for his singular creative perspective. She noted that the film is unlike anything else in her career, citing the director’s ability to build immersive, larger-than-life worlds.
The actress also requested that Rajamouli include a signature dance sequence to celebrate her return to Indian cinema.
