Madonna Wins 7 MTV VMAs 2026 Awards After Leading With 13 Nominations

Madonna had a major night at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, taking home seven Moon Person trophies after entering the ceremony with the most nominations.

The 68-year-old singer competed in 13 categories at the September 27 ceremony and finished the night with seven wins.

Madonna Wins Seven MTV VMAs

Madonna picked up awards across several major categories.

She won Best Collaboration for “Bring Your Love” with Sabrina Carpenter, along with Artist of the Year and Best Dance for “Confessions II – The Film.”

Her other wins included Best Album for Confessions II, Best Long Form Video, Best Choreography, and Best Cinematography for “Confessions II – The Film.”

Madonna Reflects on 43 Years of VMAs

While accepting the Artist of the Year award, Madonna looked back at her long history with the MTV VMAs.

The singer made a playful reference to her age and her decades-long connection with the awards show.

Madonna recalled performing at the very first VMAs 43 years ago.

She also spoke about spending the past year and a half finding herself, believing in herself and creating the music she wanted to make.

For Madonna, that freedom represents an important part of being an artist.

Madonna Returns as MTV VMAs Show Opener

Madonna also made her return as the opening performer at the 2026 ceremony.

Her appearance came two decades after she last opened the show.

She entered the event with 13 nominations, making her the most-nominated artist of the year.

Her nominations included Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Album, Best Collaboration and Best Dance.

She was also nominated for Best Direction, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Choreography, Best Visual Effects and Best Long Form Video.

Madonna Adds to Her VMA Legacy

Before the 2026 ceremony, Madonna already had 20 MTV VMA wins.

Her seven additional victories came largely for work connected to her 15th studio album, Confessions II.

The album serves as a sequel to her 2005 record Confessions on a Dance Floor.

Following its July release, Confessions II debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, adding another major achievement to Madonna’s latest era.
