Jessica Chastain Lands Role in Netflix Series The Retrievals
Jessica Chastain is adding another major television project to her growing list of roles. The 49-year-old actress is set to star in Netflix’s upcoming drama series The Retrievals, created by Molly Smith Metzler, the creator of Sirens.
According to Deadline, Chastain will lead the series alongside Emilia Jones and Amy Ryan.
Jessica Chastain to Play Kaitlyn Langford
Chastain will portray Kaitlyn Langford, a former art historian who has spent years undergoing unsuccessful fertility treatments.
Her character’s life changes when she discovers that she was among the patients affected by a criminal drug diversion scheme at the Yale Fertility Center.
Kaitlyn eventually becomes a key plaintiff in a major legal case against Yale University as she and other patients seek accountability.
What Is Netflix’s The Retrievals About?
The Retrievals is based on Susan Burton’s Peabody Award-winning New York Times podcast of the same name.
The story follows a group of IVF patients who discover that they underwent egg retrieval procedures without proper anesthesia after a nurse stole fentanyl and replaced it with saline.
The patients come together after learning what happened and form an unexpected community. Their shared experience leads them to campaign against Yale University while seeking justice.
Alongside the legal battle, the series will explore the friendships, resilience and determination that develop among the women following their traumatic experiences.
Emilia Jones Joins Jessica Chastain
Emilia Jones will play Gabby Clemente, another patient connected to the events at the Yale Fertility Center.
Gabby becomes part of the group whose lives are affected by the drug diversion scheme, alongside Chastain’s character Kaitlyn.
Jones is known for roles in projects including The Running Man, while Chastain has appeared in films such as It: Chapter Two.
Amy Ryan to Play Nurse Carla Russo
Amy Ryan is set to portray Carla Russo, a veteran nurse at the Yale Fertility Center.
According to the story, Russo pleads guilty after diverting significant quantities of fentanyl and replacing the medication with saline. The substitution resulted in patients undergoing egg retrieval procedures without anesthesia.
Ryan’s character is therefore connected directly to the central case that brings the patients together and sets the series’ legal battle in motion.
The Retrievals Brings a Real-Life Story to Netflix
With Chastain, Jones and Ryan leading the cast, The Retrievals will bring the podcast’s real-life story to a scripted television format.
The series combines a legal fight with a story about friendship and perseverance, following the patients as they seek justice and navigate the consequences of what happened at the fertility center.
