Gracie Abrams’ song Death Wish has sparked plenty of fan theories, but collaborator Aaron Dessner has now revealed that the track was not written about Taylor Swift.
Speaking with Billboard, the songwriter addressed speculation from fans who believed the lyrics were connected to Swift.
Dessner firmly denied the rumors, explaining that the song’s inspiration came from a completely different situation.
According to Dessner, Death Wish was written when Gracie Abrams was reflecting on a friend’s unhealthy relationship.
He said the lyrics were about someone dealing with a difficult situation involving a former partner, rather than being connected to Taylor Swift.
The producer added that he did not even know the identity of the person who inspired the story behind the song.
The clarification comes after fans closely analyzed the lyrics and suggested they contained hidden references to Swift.
However, Gracie Abrams had previously explained the meaning of the track during a performance in London in March 2025.
Before singing the song, Abrams told the audience that it was inspired by a friend who was involved with someone she described as a difficult and unhealthy partner.
She explained that hearing her friend talk about the relationship motivated her to write the song.
