HBO Orders a Five-Episode Girls Revival

HBO has greenlit a limited revival of Girls, the series that first premiered in 2012.

Dunham created the original show and served as its star and showrunner. The series ran for six seasons before its finale in 2017.

The upcoming revival will consist of five episodes. Production is expected to start in 2027, although further details about the release date remain unannounced.

Lena Dunham and Original Cast Return

The revival will bring back all four central cast members, with each actor reprising her original role.

The returning cast includes:

Lena Dunham as Hannah Horvath

Allison Williams as Marnie Michaels

Jemima Kirke as Jessa Johansson

Zosia Mamet as Shoshanna Shapiro

Andrew Rannells will also return as Elijah Krantz.

The reunion brings the original characters back together after the show’s 2017 finale. Further details about their stories in the new episodes have not yet been announced.

What Was HBO’s Girls About?

Girls followed a group of friends as they navigated their twenties in New York City.

The series explored difficult relationships, career struggles, personal mistakes, and the uncertainty that often comes with early adulthood. Its characters frequently faced awkward situations and complicated choices as they tried to understand themselves.

Dunham’s portrayal of Hannah Horvath helped establish the show’s distinctive voice. The series also attracted attention for its candid approach to friendship, romance, and modern life.

When Will the Girls Revival Premiere?

HBO has scheduled production for 2027, but the network has not announced a premiere date.

The five-episode revival will give viewers another chance to see Hannah, Marnie, Jessa, and Shoshanna on screen.

Fans will have to wait for more information about the new storyline, additional cast members, and the series’ eventual release.
