Former Guns N’ Roses drummer Frank Ferrer has opened up about Axl Rose’s personality, challenging the long-standing image of the rock legend as a difficult or intimidating figure.
Ferrer, who played with Guns N’ Roses from 2006 until his departure in 2025, became the band’s longest-serving drummer. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, he reflected on his years working alongside Rose and shared a different perspective on the singer.
The musician said many people view Axl Rose as a “scary” or “mean” person, but claimed that this public perception does not match the man he knows behind the scenes.
According to Ferrer, Rose is generous, humorous and genuinely concerned about the people around him. He explained that Rose regularly checked on band members and cared about their well-being during tours and performances.
Ferrer admitted that Rose’s direct personality may sometimes frustrate people, but he emphasized that the singer has a kind side that fans rarely see.

The former drummer also praised Rose’s dedication as a performer, saying the singer consistently gives his best on stage despite the pressure that comes with leading one of rock music’s biggest bands.
Ferrer described watching Rose transform during live shows, saying that even on difficult nights, the frontman would deliver powerful performances and motivate the entire band.
During his nearly two decades with Guns N’ Roses, Ferrer contributed to the group’s recordings and worldwide tours, becoming an important part of the band’s modern era.
He announced his departure in March 2025, with the band stating that the split was friendly and respectful.
