Drew Starkey Gets Emotional After Final ‘Outer Banks’ Scene
The actor says ending the Netflix hit series after seven years was a deeply emotional experience as he said goodbye to longtime friends and his character Rafe Cameron.
Drew Starkey has opened up about his emotional farewell to Netflix’s popular series Outer Banks, revealing that filming his final scene left him overwhelmed with emotions.
The 32-year-old actor, best known for playing Rafe Cameron in Outer Banks, shared his experience during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. He admitted that he struggled to hold back tears after completing his final day on set.
Starkey explained that although he expected the ending to feel emotional, he remained surprisingly calm during the final months of production.
“I thought I was fine,” the actor said, explaining that he even questioned why he was not feeling more emotional about leaving the show.
However, everything changed after filming his last scene. According to Starkey, the moment the director called “cut,” years of memories came rushing back.
The actor revealed that he broke down and cried for nearly two hours after completing the scene. Crew members and colleagues approached him to offer support, but he found himself becoming emotional again each time.
Starkey described the experience as a bittersweet moment because the cast and crew had spent seven years together. He said many of his closest friendships were formed during the making of the Netflix drama.
The actor also reflected on his personal journey, remembering that he started working on Outer Banks at the age of 25 and is now 32.
“It was such a sentimental time,” Starkey said, highlighting how much the series shaped an important period of his life.
Outer Banks Season 5 will mark the conclusion of the Netflix adventure drama. The final season is scheduled to premiere on August 20, bringing the story of the Pogues to an end.
