Creative Anxieties and Personal Growth
Following a hiatus that began in 2022, the group expressed concerns that their individual solo successes might have altered the band’s core chemistry.
The “Ego” Factor: V (Kim Taehyung) admitted to Rolling Stone that he feared strengthened “egos” from solo careers would lead to creative clashes. However, he noted that the members returned with more “open-mindedness” and “character depth” than ever before.
Solo Success: During the break, Jimin became the first South Korean solo artist to top the Billboard Hot 100, while J-Hope headlined Lollapalooza, proving the members’ individual market power.
The Success of ‘Arirang’
The comeback has been nothing short of a global phenomenon, shattering several industry records upon its March 2026 release.
Chart Dominance: The lead single, “Swim,” debuted at No. 1 globally, while the album Arirang topped the Billboard 200.
Sales Records: The album sold nearly four million copies on its first day alone.
Live Events: The launch was celebrated with a massive free outdoor concert at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul, which was streamed live to millions on Netflix.
The “Missing” Writing Credits: Why Jin Sat Out
Fans initially questioned why Jin (Kim Seokjin) had no writing credits on the new album. The documentary BTS: The Return clarified the timeline of the album’s creation.
The Songwriting Camp: While the other members were at a songwriting camp in Los Angeles, Jin was finishing his own solo tour.
Selfless Choice: Jin explained that by the time he joined them, the album was nearly finished. He chose not to “push the whole session” back for his own contributions to ensure fans didn’t have to wait longer for the group’s return.
The Path Ahead: 2026-2027
The group has no plans of slowing down as they transition back into full-group activities.
World Tour: BTS is currently on the 82-date Arirang World Tour, spanning 34 cities. The tour is scheduled to run through March 2027.
Jin on Solo Work: Despite his successful solo web series (Run Jin) and variety show appearances, Jin reaffirmed his commitment to the group, stating he has no interest in a solo-focused career or acting, saying, “There’s no reason to continue if it’s not with the group.”
