Ben Stiller Faces Backlash Over “Got It Done” Tweet After WHCD Shooting Incident

Actor Ben Stiller has come under online criticism after posting the words “Got it done” on social media shortly after a security incident near the White House Correspondents’ Dinner venue in Washington, D.C.

The post was intended to celebrate the New York Knicks’ basketball victory, but the timing led some users to mistakenly connect it to the unfolding emergency, sparking confusion and backlash online.

The incident in question involved gunfire at a hotel associated with WHCD events, prompting an evacuation that included US President Donald Trump and other high-profile guests.

Authorities later identified the suspect as Cole Tomas Allen, who has since been charged with firearms and assault-related offenses. Officials believe the attacker may have been targeting the president and members of his cabinet.

One Secret Service agent was injured during the response but was later discharged from hospital, according to security officials.

As misinformation spread online, Stiller’s unrelated celebratory tweet was widely misinterpreted, leading to criticism before users clarified its context. Supporters of the actor pointed out the post was clearly referring to sports and not the security situation.

The confusion highlights how rapidly real-time events and social media activity can collide, often leading to misinterpretation during breaking news situations.

Authorities have not indicated any ongoing threat following the arrest, and investigations into the motive behind the attack continue.

The WHCD event and surrounding activities were temporarily disrupted but are expected to proceed with enhanced security measures in place moving forward.
