Actor and producer Aubrey Plaza has responded emotionally after Amazon confirmed it will not renew the animated comedy series Kevin for a second season.
The series, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video, will conclude after just one season, despite early enthusiasm from its cast and creators. Plaza shared her reaction on Instagram, describing the decision as “very disappointing” and noting that the team felt the show was only beginning to find its creative rhythm.
She thanked fans for their support as well as the cast and crew who contributed to bringing the project to life. Plaza highlighted the effort behind the series and expressed appreciation for the audience who connected with the show during its short run.
Reflecting on her experience in television, Plaza drew a comparison to her time on Parks and Recreation, recalling how that series initially struggled with ratings before gaining long-term success. She suggested that early setbacks do not always determine a show’s future impact when networks allow time for development.
In her statement, Plaza also pointed to broader changes in the entertainment industry, hinting at the increasing pressure on streaming platforms to make rapid renewal decisions. She expressed hope that Kevin could still find another platform or opportunity for continuation in the future.
The animated series follows Kevin, a neurotic tuxedo cat voiced by Jason Schwartzman, who ends up in an animal shelter in Astoria, Queens after his owners separate. There, he navigates life alongside a group of eccentric shelter animals while adjusting to unexpected change.
Despite the cancellation, Plaza’s message suggests optimism that the story of Kevin may not be over, leaving the door open for potential revival elsewhere.
