Jennifer Lawrence Reveals Backlash for Supporting Team Jeremiah
Jennifer Lawrence has revealed the harsh online backlash she faced after sharing her opinion on The Summer I Turned Pretty. The actress said she received some of the most disturbing comments of her career simply because she supported Jeremiah in the show’s love triangle.
During an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast on October 28, Jennifer discussed the unexpected reaction to her choice. The Hunger Games star said the criticism was far more intense than she had expected.
Jennifer Lawrence Faced Harsh Backlash for Team Jeremiah
Jennifer revealed that she supported Jeremiah in the popular romance series. However, many fans wanted Belly, played by Lola Tung, to end up with Conrad, played by Christopher Briney.
The actress admitted that her opinion sparked an unusually strong reaction online.
“I said that I was team Jeremiah,” Jennifer recalled. “The level of hate that I got was bigger than any controversy I’ve ever been involved in in my life.”
She knew that many viewers supported Conrad in the love triangle. However, she did not expect fans to react so aggressively to her personal preference.

Jennifer Lawrence Was Shocked by Fans’ Reactions
Jennifer explained that she initially shared her opinion in a playful way while talking with friends. She would say that she liked Jeremiah, knowing that her friends preferred other characters.
“I feel like I was rage baiting slightly ’cause I did it with my friends,” she said. “I’d be like, ‘I like Jeremiah,’ and they’d be like, ‘Ugh.’”
She thought the discussion was harmless. However, the online response quickly changed her perspective.
“I thought it was innocent. It was not,” Jennifer said. She added that some people even sent her disturbing messages, including comments telling her that she should die.
The actress said she had faced public criticism many times throughout her career. Still, she never expected her opinion about a fictional romance to trigger such an extreme response.
“I’ve been involved in a lot and I’ve pissed off the public many, many times,” she said. “I’m old. I’ve been famous for decades.”
She added that she never imagined this particular opinion would lead people to say they wished she had never been born.

“I was team Gale,” she admitted.
She then joked about her choice, adding, “Even after he killed my sister.”
