Shrinking Star Michael Urie Joins HBO’s Rooster
Michael Urie is heading to HBO’s comedy-drama Rooster. The actor, best known for playing Brian Lorenzo in Apple TV’s Shrinking, will appear as a guest star in the show’s second season.
Urie will join a cast that includes Lamorne Morris from New Girl, O-T Fagbenle from The Handmaid’s Tale, Sutton Foster from Younger and Zavior Phillips from Bad Monkey.
What Is Rooster About?
Rooster takes place at Ludlow College, where Katie Russo, played by Charly Clive, teaches art history. She is the daughter of author Greg Russo, portrayed by Steve Carell.
In the first season, Greg visits the college to deliver a guest lecture. However, college president Walter Mann, played by John C. McGinley, offers him a visiting professorship and the chance to lead a seminar.
Greg accepts the offer because he wants to support Katie. She is dealing with a difficult marriage to Archie Bates, a Russian studies professor played by Phil Dunster.
Although Katie wants to handle her relationship problems herself, Greg hopes that staying close will help him guide her through the situation.

Michael Urie’s Role Brings an Interesting Connection
Urie’s casting also brings an interesting connection to Bill Lawrence’s television shows.
In Shrinking, Urie plays Brian Lorenzo. During the series, Brian delivers a monologue about adopting a baby with his partner. He considers naming the child Sutton after actress Sutton Foster. He also jokes about reversing the name if they have a boy.
The couple eventually welcomes a daughter and names her Sutton.
Foster is also joining Rooster as a guest star. This connection has raised questions about whether the new season might include a reference to the earlier storyline. However, no such crossover has been confirmed.
Rooster Season 2 Cast
Urie and Morris will join several other actors in the upcoming season. Danielle Deadwyler plays Dylan Shepherd, while Lauren Tsai portrays Sunny Salewski.
The cast also includes Annie Mumolo as Cristle, Maximo Salas as Tommy and Rory Scovel as Officer Donnie Mullins. Connie Britton will appear as guest star Elizabeth Stoddard.
With more familiar faces joining the series, Season 2 will expand the world of Rooster. However, the supplied report does not reveal Urie’s character or confirm a release date.
