The Brat singer says online pressure and anxiety have forced her to rethink fame and rebuild a healthier connection with fans
Charli XCX has spoken candidly about her mental health, revealing she is currently facing the most difficult period of her life and has significantly reduced her presence on social media.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the “Brat” hitmaker said she has chosen to go “a lot more offline” in an effort to protect her wellbeing while preparing for her upcoming project Music, Fashion, Film, set for release on July 24, 2026.
“I don’t really look as much anymore. It’s just better for my brain,” she explained, pointing to the constant pressure of online discussion and criticism.

Charli acknowledged her long-standing relationship with the internet as an artist but admitted that the volume of public opinion has become overwhelming.
“The discourse is loud, and sometimes that can be very overwhelming,” she said. She added that her anxiety has reached a point where it has begun to affect her physically and emotionally.
“I’m in the worst place mentally that I’ve been in my life,” she said, noting that she can no longer function under the same level of digital exposure.
Despite stepping back from traditional social media engagement, Charli said she is not disconnecting from her audience entirely. Instead, she is exploring more personal and intimate ways to connect with fans.
“I’m interested in making things really intimate between me and my audience,” she said, highlighting one-on-one conversations and more direct interactions as part of her new approach.
