Barbie Ferreira Breaks Silence on ‘Euphoria’ Exit: “It Just Wasn’t Going Anywhere”
As the third season of HBO’s Euphoria finally hits screens, former cast member Barbie Ferreira is clearing the air regarding her departure from the series. The 29-year-old actress, who became a breakout star for her portrayal of Kat Hernandez, sat down on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast with Amanda Hirsch to address the rumors that have swirled since she left the show following Season 2.
Contrary to reports of explosive disagreements with showrunner Sam Levinson, Ferreira described the exit as a mutual, albeit slow, realization that the character had reached a dead end.
A “Long Process” of Moving On
Addressing the gossip head-on, Ferreira insisted that her departure was “kind of the opposite of dramatic.” She explained that the decision came after a lengthy period of reflection and failed attempts to find a meaningful direction for her character.
“It was a long process of being like, ‘I don’t know if this is it for me,'” she told Hirsch. “We were trying to figure out how to make Kat a fully fleshed-out character, and it just wasn’t going anywhere.”
Ferreira admitted that despite multiple conversations with the production team, they simply couldn’t “land on anything” that felt right for Kat’s growth, leading to the collective decision to end her plotline.

With the glitter of Euphoria in her rearview mirror, the ‘Faces of Death’ star is looking toward a more grounded cinematic future. She expressed a strong desire to transition into the independent film scene, citing a passion for “cool and real stories” that offer more creative flexibility.
While fans of the HBO drama may miss Kat’s presence in the new season, Ferreira seems focused on building a diverse portfolio that moves beyond the stylized confines of East Highland High.
